THE FEDERATION Golf League trophy is now at Alabang.
Reaping the dividends of a major manpower buildup, Alabang overpowered defending champion Manila Golf Club at home yesterday to clinch its first ever Fed League championship.
Senior player Iggy Clavecilla and the young King Stehmeier, exemplifying the perfect mix of talents in the Alabang fold, guided their respective tandems to victories that proved to be the killing blows for a pushed-to-the-wall Manila Golf side.
And with Francis Jimenez and his Japanese partner Sengyo Kato delivering a rousing 5&4 win over Manoling Chan-Dodo Cu-unjieng in high-low, Alabang hacked out a 3.5-.5 victory to clinch the home-and-away series a day after holding MGC to a 2-2 draw in Forbes Park.
Clavecilla, who was added to the already formidable Alabang lineup this season, led partner Rolly Castro past Richie Garcia-Philip Romualdez, 3&2, in bestball. The reigning national seniors champ clinched the win in style, hitting the green on the par-5 16th with his second shot then two-putted for birdie.
