An International rescue team and 100 climbers rushed to the Ruwenzoris yesterday to save a South African tourist and his two Ugandan escorts trapped at 12,000ft by an avalanche on Sunday.

The tourist, David Land, 60, from Cape Town and his guides have been trapped at Bujuku camp and can only communicate by radio call. A South African Oryx military helicopter failed to reach the men. An ambulance plane was on the ready at Entebbe.

Rescue efforts were hampered by bad weather with the South African and Belgian military making several futile attempts to reach the camp …
