(From Reinsurance)
An Israeli earthquake model has been developed to analyse the catastrophe risk within the area.
According to Risk Management Solutions (RMS), which developed the model,it is the first to offer both high resolution and aggregate analysis capabilities for (re)insurance risk management. It combines comprehensive information on earthquake hazard with detailed analysis of Israeli building vulnerability to quantify potential earthquake losses.
In order to create the model RMS worked with a variety of experts from the region, including the Geophysical Institute of Israel, to build up a detailed list of historical events in the area, stretching back 2000 years. When combined with information about present active faults, this helped RMS to understand the probability and distribution of possible future earthquakes.
The model also looks in particular detail at the Dead Sea rift fault system, which runs north to south along the eastern edge of Israel. ...
