The journey between London and Beijing could easily start to pall for Lord Levene, the chairman of Lloyd's.
For he could end up shuttling between the two for years, in an attempt to get approval for Lloyd's underwriters to sell local currency reinsurance in China. In July Lord Levene, part of a UK business delegation visiting Japan along with the UK prime minister Tony Blair, lodged a reinsurance licence application. It was his third visit to China since he became chairman of Lloyd's in November 2002.
