[Presenter] Independence Day will be marked throughout our country today. Various cultural events will take place in Chisinau and in county centres.

In Chisinau, Independence Day celebrations started at 0900 [0600 gmt] with a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to [Moldovan medieval ruler] Stefan cel Mare si Sfint. The ceremony was attended by the country's leadership, cabinet members, foreign ambassadors, parliamentarians, scientists and artists.
