Researchers estimate that by the year 2052, $41 trillion will transfer from one generation to the next, an event expected to usher in a golden age of philanthropy.

That time may have already begun. According to the Women's Philanthropy Institute, now based' in Rochester MI, women are 1.3 million of the top wealth holders in the United States, with a combined net worth of almost $1.8 trillion. Women generated $2.1 trillion in earnings in 1999.

Because women outlive men, experts think about 60% of the $41 trillion will be in the hands of women givers, a trend that has the potential to change the world.
