Female cadets were aghast at testimony by former leaders of the Air Force Academy who denied ignoring their complaints and then punishing them for reporting being raped by fellow cadets.

After a public hearing before an independent panel investigating how leaders handled the allegations of rape, former cadets accused their former commanders of lying.

"We all had a jaw-dropping moment when they said they had never punished any of us for reporting a rape," said former cadet Beth Davis.

At least 60 women have reported being assaulted since the scandal broke this year, after which the Air Force launched at least three investigations, replaced top leaders and set up a new system for handling allegations of assault.
