Two Coast Guard veterans added for security

George M. Burgess, Miami-Dade County manager, recently announced the appointment of Bill Johnson as director of the Port of Miami. Johnson immediately followed his appointment by adding a potent security duo to his staff, including the former captain of the port, retired Coast Guard Capt. James Maes, and the former local investigator of police corruption, Denise Minakowski.

Johnson has served as port director in an acting capacity since the departure of Charles Towsley's in June. He was Towsley conduit to the county for six years and is a 27-year veteran of Miami-Dade County government. He previously served as the …
