As a writer, I consider the simple ball-point pen to be one of the most important tools of my trade. Useful not only to scribble messages or ideas and sign checks, they seem to multiply like rabbits in some places, and disappear like hibiscus blooms from where you really need them.
My solution to the dilemma was to order thousands of Women in Higher Education pens, also useful to send to thank subscribers for renewing.
Over the years, I have developed a personal phone relationship with Jodi at National Pen Company, who calls me quarterly when she has a sale on our pens.
The pens are so comfortable that I use them for taking notes for our articles at the many conferences I attend each year. Each carries one of 60 different inspirational messages on it. Pretty corny, I thought some of them were, like fortune cookies.
But then, I began to think about some of the messages, and wonder if they're really meant for me. The three laying on the desk next to me right now are saying to me:
* "All glory comes from daring to begin"
* "There is no education like adversity"
