Busisiwe Khawula, a nurse from KwaZulu-Natal, has been awarded this year's health care worker of the year award by the Soul City Institute for Health and Development Communication. Khawula is the co-founder and co-ordinator of the KwaHilda Ongcwele HIV/Aids Centre in Osizweni, Newcastle, a drop-in centre providing care and support for children affected by HIV/Aids. The centre caters for 45 orphans between eight months and 12 years old. Khawula has taken one of the orphans into her home, caring for him as her own.
