AS XIPE TOTEC
When she said she was Xipe Totec
Aztec god of springtime, I believed her.
Sitting me down opposite her rocking-chair
she explained what that meant:
she needed to flay my skin
and dance in it in the sunshine.
We had no net curtains then,
the neighbours always looked in
when she turned on the lights.
There was no TV, just her face
which shone like a screen
