US State Department warns Peru's Shining Path could attack this month.

Shining Path and other groups could attempt terrorist attacks, specifically against US interests in Peru, this month, the State Department has reported.

"There are indications that terrorist organizations continue to plan actions against US citizens and interests in Peru", warned the government of President George W. Bush, according to the AFP press agency.

The 2002 US annual report on terrorism issued last week indicated that Shining Path has carried out 119 terrorist operations, including blocking roads, harassing security forces and raiding towns and cities.
