CANBERRA, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Any United States request for a stronger military presence in Australia would be considered, Prime Minister John Howard said today.
Mr Howard was asked in a radio interview if a request for a stronger military presence - even bases in Australia - had been made.
"I've said that we would examine any proposal that the Americans put to us but we won't give approval in advance," Mr Howard told radio station 6PR.
"We don't offer a blank cheque on something like that to anybody, the Americans included."
"If they have a proposal, they will put it to us and we'll consider it. So far that hasn't happened."
When asked if he expected such a request, Mr Howard said he was not entirely clear about it.
"I don't think the Americans have made up their minds," he said.
