SEOUL, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - South Korea's textile trade surplus decreased by 7.4 per cent in the first half of the year, compared with the same period in the prior year, the Korea Federation of Textile Industries said today.

Exports fell 2.0 per cent to US$7.31 billion, while imports surged 9.1 per cent to US$2.66 billion from a year earlier, the highest growth ever, the federation said.

That created a US$4.65 billion surplus in the six-month period, the lowest since 1993.

Exports in the first-half period in recent years sagged, falling 11.5 per cent in 2001 and 9.7 per cent in 2002.
