SYDNEY, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Australian spirit drinkers will be stung by another price rise from tomorrow, prompting an industry body to call for an inquiry into the nation's alcohol taxation system.
From tomorrow, spirits drinkers will be paying 74 Australian cents in tax - an extra cent - for a standard drink, as the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) increases come into effect.
The Distilled Spirits Council of Australia (DSICA) said the tax rate on a litre of alcohol in spirit or pure form will rise another 75 Australian cents to A$58.72 (US$38.70), following the bi-annual CPI excise increase.
DSICA executive director Gordon Broderick said spirits drinkers were subsidising beer and wine drinkers.
