KARACHI, Aug 1 Asia Pulse - Mauritius has lifted a moratorium on import of rice from Pakistan and the State Trading Corporation (STC) has contracted with a local leading exporter to export 20,000 tonnes of Irri-6.
The restriction on import of rice from Pakistan had been placed about seven years ago after some Pakistani exporters failed to fulfil their export commitments.
The action resulted not only in blacklisting of those exporters but also a binding on exports from the country.
Hamid Garib, the leading grain exporter said on Wednesday that his firm Garibsons has won a tender for supplying 20,000 tonnes of rice to Mauritius. The official trading corporation of Mauritius has approved the tender submitted by Garibsons.
The rice will be exported in four shipments and will be completed by February next year.
