Japanese automaker Nissan and its controlling shareholder Renault SA of France will jointly develop six types of engines by 2010 for new vehicle models.
Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. will oversee the development of three types of gasoline engines, while Renault will manage the development of three diesel engines, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said.
The development cost for each engine is estimated at 20-100 billion yen (166.7-833.3 million dollars), the newspaper said, adding the two firms will develop engines ranging from one to 2.5 liters.
