OPPOSITION Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson vowed to pursue a campaign for the presidency in 2004 despite reports that he would withdraw from his plan to run should businessman Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco stand as candidate for president.
In a statement issued from Balanga, Bataan, Lacson said it was Cojuangco himself who urged him to proceed with his plan to run for president in 2004.
"There's no turning back," said Lacson in his statement.
"He (Cojuangco) told me before to go ahead with my plan so I went ahead. Now that I've taken the plunge, I'm already in the middle of the river with my leaders and I would swim back? Now that we are in the midstream, there's no turning back," Lacson said. Lacson said withdrawing from the campaign would be unfair for him and the people who volunteered their support for him.
