STUDENTS who test positive in the random drug check would not be kicked out, but would be forced to seek counseling.

Government teams would start going to selected high schools, colleges and universities in September to conduct the mandatory testing.

According to guidelines which the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) approved, students who are found positive for drugs would undergo three-month "observation and counseling" sessions.

They would receive counseling from a Department of Health-accredited doctor and the school-appointed drug counselor.

The guidelines state that "first time positive confirmatory drug test result shall not be a ground for expulsion or any disciplinary action."
