BAGUIO CITY-Police and village officials are looking for two female Belgian students who have been reported missing since Wednesday when they went swimming in the Agno River in Itogon, Benguet.
The students' two companions-a Belgian boy and a girl-were rescued before the two girls were swept by the strong current, according to Luisa Besitan, 42, who was housing the foreigners for three days.
Immigration officer Antonio Prieto confirmed that the Itogon police had sought assistance from police and Navy frogmen to search for the foreigners identified as Kelly Smets, 19, a law student, and India Carreras, 22, a staff member of the Young Christian Workers in Limburg, Belgium.
Windel Bolinget, secretary general of the Cordillera Peoples Alliance, said they are hosting seven Belgian students who are members of the YCW-Belgium.
The Belgians arrived in the country on July 20 for a two-week solidarity trip among farmers and indigenous communities.
