FOR THE second time in less than a week, violence gripped the Glorietta mall in Makati City when a suspected robber hit a moneychanger shop and took hostage a student.
The robbery came four days after military men mounted a short-lived rebellion, holing up at the posh Oakwood Premier in the Glorietta area.
Suspect Aries Patolot, 29, of Countryside Village, Pasig City, took out a .22 cal. Beretta handgun from his shoe and took about P4 million in foreign currencies from an employee of the Sanry's Moneychanger shop on the ground floor of the mall at around 11 a.m., police said.
He was about to make his getaway on board a taxicab when the police caught him, according to Supt. Ramon Salido of the city's Criminal Investigation Unit.
Police said Patolot hid his gun in his left shoe when he entered the mall, thwarting security men at the entrance. Once inside, he spotted moneychanger employee Teodorico Sabenorio, 20, of Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati, carrying a bag, Salido said.
