GENERAL SANTOS CITY-The military claimed it arrested six suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat on Tuesday afternoon.
Col. Edgardo Gurrea, the head of the Joint Task Force Gensan and deputy brigade commander of the Army's 601st Brigade, told reporters that a former Abu Sayyaf kidnap victim had been brought to Palimbang by the military to confirm reports of the bandit group's presence in the town.
Gurrea refused to give any more details, saying he was still waiting for a go-signal from the 601st Army brigade commander Brig. Gen. Alexander Yano.
Yano was in Palimbang supervising the manhunt operations of the government forces against the bandits reportedly led by Khaddafy Janjalani.
For security reasons, Gurrea refused to give the name of the former Abu Sayyaf hostage who helped the military.
The six suspects were reportedly trying to escape in a motorized banca when soldiers caught them somewhere in the boundary of Barangays Kraan and Libua.
