Less well known than French impressionism, the artistic movement known as divisionism was an Italian response to the impressionists and post-impressionists. Like their French counterparts, the Italians were fascinated with capturing the effects of light. The divisionist technique, which owed much to Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, was grounded in the construction of images from small dashes of pure color that would blend when viewed from a distance.
