The 2008 Olympic Games will start two weeks later than planned, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced.
Beijing organizers have welcomed the decision to set new dates for the world's most prestigious sports meet, following a report by Olympic Games Executive Director Gilbert Felli to the IOC's Executive Board on Sunday in Prague in the Czech Republic.
"The adjustment of the Games dates will mean better climatic conditions for athletes," said an official statement yesterday from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG).
