CAPT Michael J. Lyden, SC, USN, was recently selected for promotion to the one-star rank of rear admiral (lower half).
RDML (Sel) Lyden currently serves as Executive Officer for the Director, Defense Logistics Agency, Ft. Belvoir, Va. A native of Tonawanda, N.Y., he earned a bachelor's degree in management engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he was commissioned through the Navy ROTC program in 1978. He also holds a Master in Business Administration from Harvard University.
Lyden served as Supply Officer aboard the frigate USS Valdez (FF 1096), and later as Stock Control Officer on the initial crew of the combat stores ship USNS Sirius (T-AFS 8), the Navy's prototype T-AFS manned jointly by civilian mariner and Navy personnel. He completed his sea assignments's Supply Officer of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70).
Most recently, Lyden served as Deputy Commander for Financial Management/ Comptroller, Naval Supply Systems Command. Other shore assignments have included Head, Spares Programs and Policy Branch, Office of Chief of Naval Operations (N41); Supply Officer, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington; Executive Assistant to the Assistant Commander for Inventory and systems Integrity, NAVSUP.
Lyden's awards include two legions of Merit, six Meritorious Service Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal and a number of unit and campaign awards. He is qualified as a Naval Aviation Supply Officer and Surface Warfare Supply Officer and is member of the Navy Acquisition Professional Community.
