The new Samsung Toast & Bake MT1066, about $200, caught our eye because it promises a great deal of versatility It's a one-of-a-kind countertop appliance that microwaves, toasts, bakes, broils, and roasts. Unfortunately, it doesn't excel at any of those tasks and is fraught with little annoyances.
Microwaving. So-so. We judged it only good for defrosting and evenness of cooking. When ranked with comparable mid-sized microwave ovens we've tested recently this one would fall near the bottom of the list.
Toasting. Inconsistent. The first batch turns out fine. But subsequent batches toast progressively darker, bordering on burnt, unless you reset the control.
