Washington, 16 July: The Egyptian embassy in Washington defended Egypt against recent anti-American accusations by the Wall Street Journal saying that Egypt has for years been a stalwart ally of the US in peace and in war.
In a letter to the editor sent to the newspaper and published in its 15 July issue, Dr Hisham al-Naqib, director of the Press and Information Office of the Egyptian embassy, said that in its 3 July issue, the journal published an article entitled "The Anti-Americans" by Fu'ad Ajami who chose to paint a negative picture of Egyptians as mindlessly "anti-American" in order to absolve American policies of any responsibilities for the Pew Project's global results showing anti-Americanism extending far beyond one country or the Muslim world.
