No. 46,353 IT is hard not to feel a sense of scepticism about yesterday's warning that we face global meltdown unless climate change is tackled at once.

But it is less a sense of scepticism about global warming itself, though there are still those who argue it is not a proven case, than scepticism about all the politics that come with it.

For a start, the timing of Tony Blair's posturing seems to have a political goal as well as an environmental one - to steal the clothes of Tory leader David Cameron, who has struck a chord with his focus on the climate.

But more vexing is the news that we are to be weaned off …
