PORT MORESBY, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - The Papua New Guinea Government has done a lot to ensure good governance in the public sector since coming into office in 2002, Treasurer Sir Rabbie Namaliu said yesterday, Post Courier reports.
But, he added achieving good governance was going to take a long time. Responding to criticisms from the Australian Government on what Canberra says is lack of governance in PNG, Sir Rabbie said: "Good governance is a serious issue and we have in fact since the beginning of this government adopted good governance as one of the main pillars as far as policy is concerned and to that end this government has taken steps to address some of the areas where governance is critical."
He said among the actions taken by the government were the two Commissions of Inquiry into corruption and alleged stealing of large sums of money from the Department of Finance and the former Investment Corporation Fund of PNG.
