SEOUL, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Samsung Electronics Co. (KSE:005930) shipped 30 million mobile phones during the third quarter of this year, retaining its No. 3 status in the global market, a report showed Wednesday.

LG Electronics Inc. (KSE:066570), the world's fifth largest mobile phone maker, sold a quarterly high of 16.5 million units of phones but stopped short of outpacing rival Sony Ericsson for the fourth spot, according to a report by market researcher IDC.

The two South Korean electronics giants suffered a slowdown in mobile phone sales in the first half due to intensifying competition sparked by low-price strategies by their rivals.
