AFTER bumping illegal and battered buses off Edsa, the Department of Transportation and Communication will now take on colorum and smoke-belching jeepneys in Metro Manila and other urban centers nationwide.

In a press briefing, DOTC Undersecretary Arturo Valdez said the government was aiming to cut by half the 65,000 jeepneys in the country.

Valdez said the government would conduct public consultation similar to that of the Bus Rationalization Program in order to gain support from jeepney drivers and operators.
