The Knesset Labor Welfare and Health Committee today gave the Ministry of Health five months to formulate strict rules governing doctors' relationships with pharmaceutical companies. The rules will forbid drug companies from giving doctors financial compensation or other benefits in exchange for promoting or giving prescriptions for any particular drug.

Committee chairman MK Shaul Yahalom (NRP) made the decision following a discussion on a motion for the agenda by MK Ophir Pines-Paz (Labor). The discussion revealed the hidden economic links between doctors and drug companies.
