The emergence of OF Jeff DaVanon has left OF Eric Owen scrambling for playing time, even though Owens has been productive in his limited role. DaVanon supplanted Owens as the team's fourth outfielder by hitting .349 with eight home runs in June; that resulted in Owens receiving just 17 at-bats from June 9 through the end of last week. Owens, however, did get five hits in that time (.294 average). DaVanon also has been solid in the field.
