The resurgent Diamondbacks are in the midst of a nearly complete makeover, and their changes might include not just Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling and other players returning from injuries. The newest addition in the desert could be Rangers slugger Juan Gonzalez, whose next destination could swing the outcome in the hotly contested National League West.

The Diamondbacks are interested largely because their right fielders rank last in the N.L. in on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS). The Dodgers want Gonzalez for the middle of their lineup, ...
