On Sunday [13 July], ministers, deputies and leaders of the ruling coalition parties will discuss in the Kokra hotel in Brdo pri Kranju [northwestern Slovenia] how to change the state's policy. Yesterday, we were not able to obtain information from the prime minister's office on whether leaders of the ruling coalition parties [Prime Minister] Tone Rop (LDS [Liberal Democracy of Slovenia]), [Agriculture Minister] Franci But (SLS [Slovene People's Party]) and Anton Rous (DeSUS [Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia]) would meet this week. According to information received from the LDS, it is not very likely that Prime Minister Rop will tell the coalition which ministers or even coalition partners he intends to replace. The parliament's vacations begin already next week and because the prime minister has to obtain the parliament's approval for every change to the government, he will not be able to carry out a reshuffle - even if he announces it - until the autumn. According to the LDS information, we cannot rule out a possibility of having a hot autumn.
Discussions since Rop succeeded [previous Prime Minister and current President Janez] Drnovsek
Discussions on how to rule and how to achieve greater efficiency of the government have been underway since the presidential elections, in which Tone Rop (LDS) succeeded Janez Drnovsek (LDS) as the government leader. Last year, before the election of new (somewhat reshuffled) government, the coalition did not reach an agreement on work and goals of the government due to a quick change at the top. They agreed on appointing Rop and somewhat reshuffled cabinet. They also agreed that they would try to reach an agreement on work and possible changes to the coalition contract within next few months. Nevertheless, it has taken them longer than expected. Firstly, a meeting of the coalition, which was supposed to be held at the end of the negotiating process, was postponed from the beginning of this year to the end of May and later until 8 July, while according to the latest information, the ...
