Cell phones
February's guide to cell phones was great. Now that you've let me easily decide on a new provider (T-Mobile), I will be dropping Sprint. Also, please help pressure the Federal Communications Commission so that phone number portability actually happens. For professionals like me, the hassle of changing numbers is by far the biggest impediment to changing carriers.

Consumers Union has long supported the idea that customers should be able to keep their cell-phone number when they switch carriers.
The section on cell phones didn't say anything about how people who wear a hearing aid are unable to use a cell phone. The telecoil in a hearing aid is compatible only with landline phones.

The government doesn't require that cell phones be compatible with hearing aids. Text telephones (TTYs or TDDs) can generally be used with compatible cell phones, both analog and digital, under FCC rules that took effect last July.
