'Big' towers put NDMC call on hold.

NEW DELHI: The New Delhi municipal council (NDMC) is in a fix over 12 illegal cellphone towers in its area, six of which are in the sensitive Lutyens' Bungalow Zone (LBZ).

The council had decided to demolish them in May this year. But a last-minute appeal from the cell companies on the ground that demolishing the towers would result in disruption of services - especially in VVIP areas - scuttled the move.

Disclosing this, a source said the council has now sought the Union urban development ministry's advice on the future of the towers.
