Convicts claimed they are being forced to buy uniforms from corrupt prison officials.
The prisoners at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison have demanded an independent committee to investigate the officials.
"You have been talking about corruption but the worst has been happening here. Many of us do not have uniforms because we have been unable to pay for them," Mr Ibrahim Kariuki told officials of the Parliamentary Committee on Administration, National Security and Local Authorities.
The committee, chaired by Embakasi MP David Mwenje, toured Kamiti and the Industrial Area prisons on Monday and yesterday.
Although some of the prisoners wore the new stripped uniforms and caps, many were in the old white outfits while some wore civilian clothes.
