Toyota is in tie-up talks with Guangzhou Automobile of China, a spokeswoman said, in a move that could boost the top Japanese automaker's car production there.

"We are talking to a range of (auto) manufacturers around the world, including Guangzhou Automobile, but nothing has been decided yet," the spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The comment came after the Tokyo Shimbun newspaper reported Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. had reached an agreement with Guangzhou Automobile -- a business partner for rival Honda -- on joint production in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.
