AS the country said farewell to the Special Olympians yesterday, the huntwas on for four who have gone missing.
The members of the Niger team have no passports or tickets home. And a colleague claimed yesterday that they had been anxious to remain here for another week to gosightseeing.
Gardai began a nationwide alert for the three athletes and their coach who have not been seen since they left their Dublin hotel at 8am on Sunday morning. Gardai were alsochecking the whereabouts of two coaches - from Sudan and Pakistan - who failed to board their flights home.
They said there was no immediate cause for concern about their safety but were anxious to determine their reasons for remaining here.
A second Niger coach and an athlete who, with the four missing men, comprised thesmall African country's entire Special Olympics team, flew home yesterday after boardinga 6.40am flight to London.
