ONLY strategic investors with at least EUR 1 billion equity capital which sell over 8-12 billion kWh of electricity a year will be able to participate in the privatisation of Bulgaria's seven electricity-distribution companies (EDCs), deputy minister of energy Angel Minev said. The quality criterion is based on the fact that a EDC sells between 8 and 12 billion kWh a year and should not be bought by a company with poorer sales performance, he explained.
The EDCs may remain state-owned and the procedure may be terminated if no candidates meeting the criteria turn up at the preliminary stage of the tender, it emerged after Minev's meeting with the workers and management of the metropolitan and Sofia region's EDCs.
