BULGARIA'S current account deficit for the first four months of 2003 was USD 721.2 million (3.8% of GDP), increasing by nearly 93% year on year, BNB data show. The deficit for January-April 2002 was USD 374.6 million (2.4% of GDP). According to preliminary information, the trade gap in April also widened.
Higher crude oil and natural gas prices accounted for USD 90.7 million of the increase in the current account deficit, the central bank's analysis shows. For April alone the current account gap amounted to USD 321.8 million, compared to USD 137.2 million a year earlier.
