Milen Velchev asks PA about the delay of the privatisation

THE ECONOMY ministry has not yet submitted the strategy for privatisation of Bulgaria Air to the council of ministers. According to the schedule worked out by the ministry of finance and the Privatisation Agency (PA), the privatisation procedure had to be announced by the middle of the year. Finance minister Milen Velchev has recently sent several letters to the PA asking why the procedure is delayed, the PARI daily learned.

The aim of the cabinet was to quickly sell the national carrier, therefore the company was set up with a BGN 30.160 million state subsidy. The money had to be restored to the budget immediately after the privatisation.

So far only BGN 7.5 million has been credited to Bulgaria Air's account and the amount has been already spent, the transport ministry said. On April 1 the Commission for Protection of Competition had to allow the extension of the remaining BGN 22.5 million. The decision was postponed by a couple of months but was finally extended in early June and the subsidy had to be transferred to Bulgaria Air.
