PRAGUE, July 1 (CTK) - The number of banks granting mortgage loans in the Czech Republic is likely to rise after the country's accession to the EU next year, daily Lidove noviny (LN) writes today.
Several banks operating in the Czech Republic which do not have a mortgage licence are going to start granting mortgage loans next year. They expect they will use a mortgage loan licence from the country they are headquartered in, LN writes.
Besides, the Czech National Bank (CNB) is preparing an amendment to the act on the capital market which would be projected also to the act on banks. "If the amendment is passed, then all banks which do not have a mortgage licence will be allowed to issue mortgage bonds," LN quotes Pavel Zubek of CNB's press department as saying.
