TOKYO, July 1 Asia Pulse - Two of Japan's four midsize shipbuilders are expecting consolidated pretax profit growth in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2004, but the other two firms are forecasting either a profit decline or a pretax loss on a group basis.
Namura Shipbuilding Co. (TSE:7014) is contracting out eight of the 16 vessels that it is building this fiscal year, diminishing their contribution to earnings. The company expects its operating profit to drop slightly, but even in the absence of the 200 million yen (US$1.66 million) foreign exchange gain posted the prior year, it sees pretax profit rising 6 per cent to 2 billion yen.
