SEMNAN, July 1 Asia Pulse - Azerbaijan Ambassador to than Abbasali Karam Oglu Hassanov said here Sunday that the Tehran-Baku trade has topped US$300 million.
Speaking at a meeting with Semnan Governor General Mohammad Ali Panjeh-Folladgaran, he added that the two nations have planned to upgrade the figure to US$1 billion.
He said Semnan province enjoyed good industrial potential, adding "last year's trip by the Azeri president to Tehran was a turning point in mutual relations."
He also said that preparations were being made for the trip of President Mohammad Khatami to Azerbaijan, expressing hope that the visit would herald a more prosperous relations between the two countries.
The Semnan governor general outlined the potentials of the province in tourism, industry and agriculture sectors.
The visit by the Azerbaijan diplomat to the province followed a trip by a 50-member trade delegation from the province to Azerbaijan. Several agreements were signed between the two sides during the visit.
The two nations have strived to forge closer economic and trade ties.
