TAIWAN SEEKS LANDING VISA PRIVILEGES FROM INDONESIA.
TAIPEI, July 1 Asia Pulse - Taiwan is negotiating with Indonesia in the hope that the Southeast Asian country will resume issuing landing visas to visitors from Taiwan, a Foreign Ministry official said Monday.
The anonymous official denied local news reports that Jakarta suspended landing visas for Taiwanese in retaliation for alleged Taiwan officials' failure to follow through on promises to help develop the country's economy, pointing out that Jakarta cut from 48 to 11 the number of countries whose people can enter Indonesia with just a landing visa in the wake of the outbreaks of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
The move means visitors from Taiwan -- which is Indonesia's third-largest source of visitors to the resort island of Bali -- will have to secure visas before heading for Indonesia once the new measures take effect ...
