Dutch food retailer Ahold said that the chairman of its US subsidiary Tops Markets, Frank Curci, has resigned due to accounting irregularities at the chain.

Curci was in the process of taking on the role of chief operating officer of Ahold's subsidiary Giant Food, but resigned due to accounting problems that occured at Tops under his watch, the company said in a statement.
