FILIPINOS are making waves in movie festivals abroad not just in feature filmmaking but also in documentaries. Gifted documentarist Ditsi Carolino is going from one place to another-New York, Toronto, London-screening her latest documentary, "Riles," to great acclaim.
In New York, "Riles" was shown at the Walter Reede Theater at Lincoln Center. The screening was sold out, and the audience was very responsive.
In London, Ditsi's documentary was shown at The Other Cinema to an enthusiastic crowd of Brits and some Pinoy students.
At Toronto's HotDocs festival, "Riles" was screened at the Bloor cinema, where it got the best response to date. HotDocs is deemed one of the best docu showcases in the world, and is valued for its mix of good programming and high level of industry professionals who attend its seminar.
Ditsi won't be through with her festival tour with "Riles" until August or September. She should then schedule the Philippine premier of "Riles" so we can see for ourselves what all these viewers abroad have been raving about.
