THE CHIEF of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Rizal has been sacked over charges of extortion and arbitrary detention involving two 11-year-old girls allegedly mixed up in a drug pushing case.
CIDG chief Eduardo Matillano yesterday said he had relieved Chief Insp. James Brilliantes and his civilian agent, Edgar Ty, to give way to an "impartial investigation" of accusations against them by the National Bureau of Investigation.
"I don't tolerate my men (committing atrocities)," he told the Inquirer. "If they're guilty, I won't hesitate to punish them."
The NBI has accused Brilliantes and his men of illegally detaining the two girls who were "rescued" from the CIDG office in Karangalan, Cainta, Rizal last June 25.
NBI director for Metro Manila Edmund Arugay said the girls were falsely accused of delivering drugs for alleged pusher Nancy Ramos to allow Ty to extort P150,000 from their families.
